Ah, Google ranking – that one factor webmasters have been trying to study in pursuit of making the websites they run rank higher.

This feature also allows Google to easily catch SEO practitioners who refuse to abide by the rules and keep on doing their practice.

How to avoid being negatively affected by the recent Penguin update

The most efficient means seen by experts in keeping a good reputation online and preventing your site from being penalized is to focus on brand creation.

A number of companies get this wrong.

Many are under the impression that the more links they build, the better would be their branding – wrong.

Branding has something to do with your identity as a company and while links pull readers to your site, it does not guarantee their attention for long. This is true especially if your site is not providing quality information they need.

Rather than putting all your expertise, resources and money on building links, it’s more strategic and efficient to focus on amplifying your brand identity by providing relevant, quality content and sharing them to authentic social media platforms that your target market could easily access.

Moreover, it’s also highly suggested to spend time in data analysis rather than blindly creating links without studying the performance of the past and current ones you’ve made public. By careful analysis of link responses, you’ll have a better way of assessing which ones work best.

Will there be necessary changes for the SEO practice in itself?

Granted that you are following the right rules in search engine optimization, there isn’t much to change about it. As long as you are not giving out spam links and content in an attempt to gain more traffic, you should be fine.

What webmasters can do is to double check the efficiency of their current strategies and comparing it to the top performing websites. The Penguin 4.0 update is not meant to penalize anyone or make things even more difficult. The continued battle against black hat methods

Despite this recent upgrade, it still does not guarantee the total eradication of web masters who choose to invest time on using methods that are spammy in nature.

At present, we still see websites that are ranked high but do not necessarily give us the best content. The upgrade is technically a masterpiece in the making and hopefully in the future, anyone who just produces spam would start to get penalized. Unless this happens, there would still be content out there that would rank high without necessarily providing something really of quality.

Building a solid online reputation does not come automatically.  If you’re serious about making your service relevant to your market, then your focus has to be their needs. From here, you can work on strengthening your brand identity through website content.

The update might have changed some website rankings  but as long as you’re doing everything by the book, you should be able to see it pay off in the long run.
